📌 Notes on Some Special Dates

📌 January 15, 2026

NSE & BSE are fully closed due to Maharashtra Municipal Election declared holiday. Earlier it was only a settlement holiday, but exchanges revised it to a full trading holiday.

📌 Diwali / Muhurat Trading

08 Nov 2026 (Sunday) – Diwali Laxmi Pujan
Although a Sunday, exchanges plan a special Muhurat Trading Session on this day. Exact timings are usually announced by the exchange closer to the date.

Muhurat trading is a traditional session during Diwali where markets trade for a limited period in the evening as a mark of auspicious beginning to the Indian financial year.

F&O Expiry Guidelines (2026)

📊 Weekly and monthly expiry rules traders follow:

📍 Weekly Expiry

  • Most Index and Stock weekly contracts expire on Thursday every week.

  • If a holiday falls on the usual expiry day, expiry happens on the previous trading day. (Example: 15 Jan closure → expiry moved to 14 Jan)

📍 Monthly Expiry

  • Monthly contracts for NIFTY, BANKNIFTY, etc., expire on the last Thursday of the month.

  • If that falls on a holiday, expiry is moved earlier to the last working trading day.

Settlement & Segment-Specific Holidays

Not all exchanges and segments follow the exact same closure. For example:

✅ Commodity Derivatives may have different morning/evening session rules on some holidays.
✅ Settlement holidays affect processing of trades and funds even if the markets open
