F&O Expiry Guidelines (2026)
📊 Weekly and monthly expiry rules traders follow:
📍 Weekly Expiry
Most Index and Stock weekly contracts expire on Thursday every week.
If a holiday falls on the usual expiry day, expiry happens on the previous trading day. (Example: 15 Jan closure → expiry moved to 14 Jan)
📍 Monthly Expiry
Monthly contracts for NIFTY, BANKNIFTY, etc., expire on the last Thursday of the month.
If that falls on a holiday, expiry is moved earlier to the last working trading day.
Settlement & Segment-Specific Holidays
Not all exchanges and segments follow the exact same closure. For example:
✅ Commodity Derivatives may have different morning/evening session rules on some holidays.
✅ Settlement holidays affect processing of trades and funds even if the markets open
